Badi Chhawani

Badi Chhawani is a well-known religious and spiritual place located on the outskirts of Ayodhya. Spread across a large area of nearly three acres, this sacred site is surrounded by high boundary walls and has a grand entrance gate that reflects its historical and spiritual significance.

According to local beliefs, many years ago a saint arrived in Ayodhya along with a group of sages and disciples while traveling through the region. They planned to stay in Ayodhya only for four months during the holy Chaturmas period. However, after spending time in the divine atmosphere of Ayodhya and the banks of the sacred Saryu River, the saints decided to remain there permanently.

It is believed that Mahant Shri Raghunath Das Ji Maharaj welcomed the saints and provided them shelter at this place throughout the year. Since a large number of saints and devotees stayed here together, the place gradually came to be known as “Badi Chhawani,” meaning “Large Camp.”

Today, Badi Chhawani is recognized as an important spiritual center in Ayodhya, attracting devotees and visitors with its peaceful surroundings, religious atmosphere, and deep connection to the city’s saintly traditions and heritage.
